So I was new to the US with little established credit history, so little that creditkarma refused to give me a credit report citing my SSN number as too new and most credit card companies rejected my applications for the same reason.

That included Chase, Kohls and one more.

Then came along Capital One with their Journey credit card. The card offers a 1% cashback on all purchases and an additional .25% cashback if statement is paid back in full (to encourage good credit habits).

The card was originally meant for students to teach them the basics of credit but it seems like it’s a nifty tool for immigrants alike, especially those with high paying jobs but no credit history.

To give credit where its due (no pun intended), First Tech did offer me a decent credit card with a much larger credit line but Capital One is more recognized plus I plan to upgrade to the Quick Silver credit card later on. Capital One gave me a $3000 credit limit on this card which is among the highest I have seen on the Internet for this baby.

So there you have it, if you are new to the US with no credit history, apply for the Capital One Journey credit card and get auto approved in a jiffy ! There is No Annual Fee Smile

Important requirements :

  • To apply you need to be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Social Security number.
  • If you are responsible for paying rent/mortgage, then your annual income must be greater than your annual rent/mortgage payments.
  • Approval is based upon satisfying Capital One’s credit standards.
