Tata Sky and Dish TV beware,DTH subscribers to get more power

By WiseTechie

Till now the DTH industry in India was unregulated, which pretty much meant that companies like Tata Sky and Dish TV(to a lesser extent) India did what they wanted to do. Tata Sky has been regularly criticised on this blog for the way it imposes channels onto its subscribers, offers substandard services and also does not have a toll free telephone number for redressal.

Recently they launched a massive PR campaign with biggies like Paresh Rawal, Boman Irani and Kirron Kher with both Web and TV ads, giving testimonials of TATA Sky subscribers supposedly praising the service.

But TRAI has taken note, and is all set to make the DTH industry more competitive. DTH companies have been asked to make Set Top boxes compatible with rivals and offer takeback schemes and rental schemes, so subscribers are not stuck with a particular company.

Also DTH companies will now get unbundled channels, Dish TV commented that this benefit will be passed to consumer so a ‘a la carte’ system can be introduced for consumers.

Also no broadcaster or DTH company will be able to remove channels without prior notice, something which had happened with Neo Sports and TATA Sky.

Exciting days for the DTH consumers !
