After the Futurebazaar reviews, Indiatimes shopping reviews (:P) , we are back with another online portal to shop with. The newly launched Homeshop18 shopping portal owned by the CNBC TV18 group. It all began with my dad being an avid user of CNBC’s portfolio manager. One day while he was logged in, he got a message that he has been given a Rs.100 voucher on Homeshop18.

I told him, its free money, lets spend it and it will also tell us more about the shopping procedures on Homeshop18 and also their level of service and goods quality. So i ordered some stuff, pretty close to Rs.100, didnt want to spend too much from my own pocket and be stuck with something not worthwhile.

So i bought the stuff, i got the delivery within 3 days from my order. But i was shocked to see the huge difference in advertised goods and goods sent to me. I had opted for the free gift wrap but that too was missing. Also missing was a part of the product (a greeting card) advertised. So it really wasnt pleasant.

I wrote to Homeshop 18 about the missing card, and here are their replies, notice that they didnt immediately offer to send the card, only when insisted did they send it.

On September 1 i told them to send me the card, they said that they will tell the vendor to do the same. By september 7 i was all out of patience and told them it seems their vendor doesnt care about what he advertises and what he sells.

Apparently the vendor doesn’t care about what he promises and what he doesn’t, i am yet to get the card for the said order. Shows the level of commitment of the vendor towards his customers.

And i got a nice greeting card about 2 days later.

So in the end, i was satisfied, but the initial lack of response left a bad taste in the mouth, lets see if i see a good deal there again, i might just spend some money and check their service again.

We had reported about Airtel increasing local SMS and call rates alongwith Hutch and Idea. The three operators had formed a cartel and at that time the TRAI had said that it was keeping a close watch on the situation. Angered by this hike a NGO had filed a case asking for TRAI intervention in the hike.

The appeal was filed in TDSAT, in its reply TRAI said that

“We are constantly watching the issue raised but the charges are within the ceiling limits”.

To this the TDSAT replied that it was not bird watching, they have to intervene.

I wonder if they really have formed a cartel, MRTPC will like to have a word with the three telcos.

Yes friends, it happened to one of my friends , don’t let it happen to you, with out easy step by step tutorial, learn how to change your router password to save your account from being hacked. We wont tell you how to hack the MTNL accounts here, as we are here to protect innocent users who land up with huge broadband bills.

One of my friend who has a 400MB plan on MTNL saw that within 3 days, 380 MB had been used. So he didnt use the internet connection for 25 days, when he logged into MTNL’s site, he was shocked to see over 800MB of data usage. His account had been hacked and his password stolen.

The steps for a TATA account are given below, Before everything else, change the ISP access password by logging onto your ISP’s site. MTNL steps are pretty similar.

1. Log into your DSL router by entering your gateway address in your browser, 192.168.1.1 for most users.

2. You will be asked for username and password, use admin admin , this will work on most default routers. If it doesnt call your ISP and ask the initial router password.

3. The most important step to protect your account from being hacked is to protect your router. Its your gateway to the network and your internet account. Click on advanced setup, and WAN. Then click on edit. Click on next twice and update your new internet password. Go to end and save the info and reboot.

4. Now again login to 192.168.1.1, click on management, access control and select the admin user, change the admin username and password.

You have protected your account from being used by other people.
