Tata Sky is off to a great start as far as numbers go, I believe it must have enlisted a record number of people in its few months of existence. But numbers aren’t everything, as the market will start to saturate, customer satisfaction will be the key. But Tata Sky does not seem to realise this, treating customers like shit wont get you anywhere. Everywhere when you ask a Tata Sky customer, if he is satisfied, the answer is a straight ‘NO’. But does Tata sky care ? It definitely doesnt seem like it.
Tata Sky first went wrong when it stopped listening to the consumer, take the whole Neo Sports incident for example. They first got Neo Sports, announced it pompously with their set top box alert system and when the cricket series got over quietly shut it down. Then India did not perform in the world cup and they got their excuse. Seeing that the common man is upset with cricket, they capitalized. Before the world cup they gave hope to subscribers(current and future) that when cricket series are on, we will get the channels showing the series. But look now, the India Bangladesh test matches are being shown on Neo Sports, but there is no Neo Sports on Tata Sky, a scam well executed by the management of Tata Sky.
There has been no improvement, no digital audio channels were added as earlier promised. Little interactive content is present on Tata Sky, personally I don’t prefer to watch stupid star news all the time.
And I got an alert a few days ago, NETV which is North East TV is now available on Tata Sky, no offence to anyone but I don’t care the least.
Then there is the bit about (allegedly) being the most advanced satellite TV service of India. Lets see what we have in India, no Internet, pathetic CD quality picture, Zero Telecast during rain (even if there is no thunder), no Digital Video Recorder, no toll free redressal mechanism, the abuse of the set top box alert system for spamming about Showcase movies etc.
The customer service number is actually undialable from my dad’s phone which he gets rent-free from the goverment. I actually have to make an STD call to Chandigarh everytime i have a problem or wish to recharge.
And what’s with the new so called packs, very cleverly designed by the people at Tata Sky, quietly keeping a few channels out from each pack so consumers are forced to take the whole bouquet. They should make it on a per channel basis also after the packs, so if one channel is missing from a pack, the consumer does not have to upgrade the whole package, but can buy that one channel after paying Rs.5.
Their website is also not navigable, it has little information and does not work in Firefox, they should probably fire their web designers and sue them for making the pathetic website. To people looking to get a TV service, i recommend waiting for Reliance and other players before taking the plunge !
When Tata Sky first came on people were happy that their local Cable operator a.k.a. goon wont be able to fleece anymore. True, but little do they realise that Tata Sky is no honest service. They own your dish, the installation warranty expires after one year and then , if their dish gets damaged you will have to pay for it. If wiring gets broken,its absolutely your liability not theirs.

Ye Tata sky has cheated upon all its customer, If they keep such policies nobody is going to buy it. I myself is not going to recommend it to my friends and relatives. I now dont trust tata,s any product, i have stop using their salt too.
By such attitude my trust on tata has been lost, i purchased this product due to their reputed name as good tycoon but the way we tata sky customer have been cheated it will take centuries to get the customers trust again. Tata(sky a nightmare. Anyway Nicely documented the flaws of tata(sky.

Tata Sky having association with Star Network is not showing Star Cricket channel, the much awaited thing for all the Indian Cricket Crazy fans. From tomorrow that is July7, 2007, the Indian Cricket team is starting its battle with England Cricket Team on its much awaited English tour after the debacle in the World Cup. Though they say, we have got independence, but I still very much feel a slave when I am not able to even see what this country is most passionate about, Cricket and the indian Cricket Team in action.

We need to blog them via call/e-mail may be report it some new channel to sensationalize this. The next thing would be to take them to the courts.

I think the idea from Samir makes a lot of sense, lets first let these guys at TataSky know that the consumers are not happy, this can be acheived by a legal notice threatining them that the group will initiate action against them in the consumer court and then also publicily deride them maybe writing or requesting news channels to cover our complaints and then if adverse publicity does not affect them we can file a case against them in a consumer court for deficiency of service.

I feel very unfortunate for possessing a tata-sky stb. I refused to pay the subscribtion when tata-sky rep calls me… When i asked about thier resumption of Neo and star cricket, these junk reps dont have an answer. And Start cricket is not from Star group and it is from ESPN Star Sports. This happens only in our country. After paying for these channells, and they never allow us to watch complete matches…lot of Ads…onscreen ads…
Please let me know if anyone knows how to return the junkbox and damn dish that I have. Will I get money back? I switched to DTH after I got frustrated with the service of SCV and local cablewalas(localgundas!)…Help me!

Very well written and a good debate’s on here. I too am one of the unfortunate subscriber of TATA SKY. When I was deciding between TATASKY and Dish I went for the former because both the names are respected world over for quality. Then it seemed a good decision as there were plenty of channels on Tata Sky and their interface too was better. However, the joy was short lived as in less than a month of subscribing several channels went off air including those that were the highlights such as Neo Sports. Now, all that is left is tens of regional channels which we never watch and several showcase channels that are as good as nonexistant. I too want to throw away this piece of crap and go back to my cablewallah who atleast made sure we got the channels by hook or by crook. I think we need to sue the company and show them that we’re not going to take this lying down. Lets file an online petition and sign it.

I have Dish TV. Eventhough it is not great at least they deliver what they promise. Customer Service is not great but at least they listen to the problems.The packagaes are well structured. They keep on adding new ood channels. Most of all, it will deliver what it promises….nothing more…..I totally recommend it.

Document their problems and what was promised and what was delivered. Once we get in sufficient numbers any member who is a legal professional will then suggest the suitable method to get a quick response and soultion.

Today morning I gave a call on its customer support to find out that there are some legalalities are pending from TATA side. I wonder they call it a TATA star Venture one has to tell me what sort of venture is this. One partner is not able to air the other partner’s channel. As you rightly said when I bought TATA sky I thought I ve got rid of cable operators, theri poor picture qualit. But I am absolutely regrett on this start Cricket issue. These STAR and ESPN also playing games having kept Star showing us something in India which is never played in India and deprived of what we are crazy about. I condemn this Act ot Star Sports.

I think we should drag them to consumer court.Without any justification they keep on removing popular channels and have hiked their subscription rates. They have just 33 pay channels and charge Rs.300.
Their motto is to cheat the customers.ISKO LAGA DALA TO LIFE BARBAD KAR DALA.
NO sports channels like STAR CRICKET, NEO SPORTS, ZEE SPORTS. We pay so much to watch the match on DD, this is completely unacceptable.

It has become a common thing to take cricket lovers in India for a ride. Every cricket lover has to undergo this agony before every important series figuring India. Doordarshan, which claims to be the champion of the public and cricket lovers in India, is not even bothered. A legislation is in place for pvt brodcasters to share feed with DD, but DD is not interested in Test matches as there is no revenue in telecasting Test matches. This shows that DD is only interested in making money and is not interested in public sentiments like it claims whenever a pvt broadcaster refuses to share feed of ODIs.

One of the things should be to reduce subscription charges, 300rs. a month is just TOO much. Active channels should be made optional in Super Saver pack, quite frankly, i dont play those childish games and nor do i watch 4 news channels together. It should reduce charges.

Each time you call the customer support department you have to make a STD calls and when you ask for a specific question like why Star Cricket is not on in Tata Sky they will have a Standard answer, we shall let you know as soon as it come.

We should not leave this cheaters. I just got the update that tata sky’s competitor dish tv has signed a pact and showing star cricket channel. I called tata sky rep by making an std call, and they repeated the tape! I am very much frustrated since i am deprived of watching the lords test match which scheduled to start tomorrow (19-07-07). It is shame to tatasky ,and its stake holders.

i agree with all of you that viewers are being taken for a ride by tatasky; i bought it when the 3 month free scheme was on and now that 3 month are over, the scheme is again active which makes me think why i hurried to switch to DTH. I do not have much time to watch tv anyway with children homework and office pressure etc. i feel i wasted my money as we normally watch a good movie on CD player on a weekend. i dont even know they stopped 13 channels. this is indeed unfair and consumer forum should take them to court

I purchased Tata Sky only for the the sports channels, particularly Neo Plus and Zee-Sports. But they fleeced us all. They’ve definitely commited a prosecutable crime by announcing the full Zee-bouquet and later silenty pulling it off air. I’m in such a desparation that I’ve all my friends to call Tata Sky customer care and hurdle choicest swear words.

Tata sky is feeling the heat at least in punjab. Etc punjabi channel is one of the 13 channels whose transmission was stopped by tata sky. It is a very popular channel in punjab and rest of india as Gurbani is shown live from Sri Harimandir Sahib daily in the morning and evening. Moreover, ‘Gyan da Saagar’ is another very popular program where Sant Maskin Singh ji recordings are shown. As there is no etc punjabi so people in punjab are shifting towards dish tv and tata sky management also know this.Sooner or later tata sky people will have to transmit this channel.

don’t think that i am doing some sort of advertisment but i am just telling you that try Dish TV it’s way more better than Tata SKy. They give the maximum no. of regional channels u can think of . Over that i get close to 200 channels rite now(including radio). So i reccomend to leave this tata shit and join dish tv. so far i havnt had even 1 problem with it. Or better of just wait for IPTV , it’s already in many cities inc. metros like Kolkata , Mumbai and Delhi and soon coming to other places . And that is the most advanced way of viewing TV

I purchased TataSky 1+2, landed with a product which does not work. I feel cheated. My lawyer advised – no relief likely in consumer court because dish and cable is theirs, you own the useless set top box, they will terminate your services and you will no more be consumer. No relief in Civil Court because even if you win they will drag you right up to Supreme Court, try if you can afford to spend more than 100,000/- on litigation. No case in criminal court. After reading everybody’s comments here and in other places on the net..i finally decided to get the local cablewalah’s Set Top Box and needless to say,am very much happy.
There is no point of servicing and stuff….cos during rains,the quality remains as such.Coming to the point of quality,its high-class DVD quality wich is similar to the one given by tata sky!!!
The only problem with STB is…if the cable in ur area goes off due to power problem or something similar,u wnt get anyting in ur STB.That is fine with me…cos it was the situation wen i had the normal 100/- cable suscription!!
I pay 275/- for the biggest package available and have no hassles…i suggest evryone else to try out the same..the price per month may b similar to Tata sky & Dish tv,but we will get all channels availb with zilch worries!!!

Yes you are right. Tata sky is cheating to customer. First of all we have spent Rs.3000 for this rubbis box because rent was 200. Now Tata Sky hiked rent to 300 and otherway removed all used full channel. I spoke to tata sky customer care to take back this rubbis box and return by money. They have replied ” It is your property and you can keep it”. Unlike other DTH received like DisTV or Doordarshan, you can use the received for free to air channel, Tata sky received is use less and you can’t use some else. Please don’t go for Tata Sky, they are cheater, once you caught in their net, they will cheat you too.

Bought tata sky in SEPTEMBER 2007 with the scheme of 6months free for Rs.4000. Thinking that all the channel will be available. After that Tatasky started reducing the no. of channels by putting tem into packages like lifestyle silver life style gold , sports package etc.for this you have to pay more (appx. 40-50rs per package)This is making fool out of people. Buy reducing their price to Rs.260/ they have infact increased the price.For example.. If I opt for Super saver pack it would cost me Rs.260. without the channels which are in lifestyle silver and life style gold and sport gold pack. Now if I want to see all the channel I have to pay Rs.30 per package that make another 90Rs for all 3 packages so the total comes to RS260+90=350per month.And all the packages have some important channels like lifestyle silver has BBC in it. And what about the people who bought tatasky under diff. scheme. Like I bought it under 6months free. Tata sky is chor The suck. I am getting it removed Secondly there is a lag in tatasky. And also some stupid numbers keep on apprearing right in the middle of the screen.

I have heard about TRAI regulations which states that service providers should pay back if the customers return the settop box.

They used to show Zee Sports in the beginning. But they’ve discontinued it since a really long time now.
And i’m sure i’m not the only one who’s missing Zee Sports. But Tata Sky doesn’t care about customer satisfaction.

I seriously hope that DTH portability is implemented soon. Of course, with the mobile number portability still hanging in balance and continued delays in its implementation, when would Indian firms realise the importance of customer service? DTH portability is the only option for people like me who want to move out of the misery that is Tata Sky. No Zee sports and its not just La Liga, what about our very own I-league.
